Obolenskidonia...Ahh...Smell the Oppression

I, like all aspirational, ambitious types of a certain "ilk", enjoy seeing when one of us makes a move and takes over from the current government. With Mayor Tenk's absence, Babbage was ripe for such a thing. I have received missives and watched events unfold with interest there as Doc O unleashed his Lord Smashingtons and took Babbage for himself...Ahhh...the wonderful smell of oppression...But of course, there are always some folks who just do not appreciate the new, wonderful changes...
Ugh...resistance fighters. Bane of a dictator's existence. Oh, how they vex one so...I have heard that tonight will determine whether the Obolensky regime falls. We shall see...

Taking Notes on Elven Experiments and Observations

Last week, I attended a salon in Babbage about the magickal creatures we know as fae/fey. I do find it interesting that two of the main Steamlands regions are governed by them--The Elf (Lunar) of Steelhead and Mayor Tenk of Babbage. Tenk seemed to be in a bubble. I kept looking at my claws and back at him, sorely tempted...
The Redhead (Tensai) was there to speak more about her experiments upon her husband to see what makes him tick. Now that's what I'm interested in! As a feline of science, I queried if there was a conflict between science and the magickal. She believes magick to be the sciences unexplained...I will tell you one thing--her examination ray is rather fantastic. I should like to get my paws upon one...

Adventures in Babbage

Yesterday, I thought I would visit my minion Asrei in New Babbage and take a bit of a tour. Especially as much of the town seemed to be distracted by a soiree in the Vernian Sea. First, however, we thought we'd thoroughly look at the relatively new town hall there. We found its hydro-power system to be of much interest...Took a lift to the clocktower, where there was a small hammock. Just big enough for a gnome, I'd say. I noted the exits. Hmm...
While in the water-accessible basement, we examined the hydro-power source a bit further...
While walking along the pier, my minion's combustion weapon seemed to attract much attention from visitors and other looky-loos intrigued by its design. Asrei looked at me--as he was itching to burn something--and I nodded. He flipped a switch, pulled the trigger and whoosh! Ah, I do love fire so.
We even ran into a Babbage intelligence officer. I do prefer to stay under the radar, so it was good to not be a "person of interest"--at the moment. I must pay another visit to Babbage sometime soon. I find their citizens rather amusing.

Obolensky vs Burton Steelhead Trial Recap

Miss Burton, the plaintiff, is a djinn who supposedly lost her powers......and blames the defendant, Doctor Obolensky, saying that one of his devices caused it to happen...
Doctor Mason was brought on as a witness and sworn in on a Torah, but having no body--wasn't allowed to be a witness. Did his own quack medicine and practices finally get the best of him? After a longwinded--and long in general--trial, Doctor O made quite the escape and Judge Broom found for the plaintiff, Miss Burton. I swear...what is the world coming to when we evil geniuses are to be dragged into the court like this?
Doctor O left his mark on the Town Hall roof. I, of course, believe that in Steelhead there can be only two evil geniuses...me, and The Redhead--who was not thrilled at all about either mark...
There was talk of his roaming the town in a giant crab. Oh, dear Bastet, did he have tock lobster envy or something? I do swear. I cleaned my claws and watched calmly as the townspeople ran about in a panic. I mean, after all...I think about levelling Steelhead on a regular basis, so this was merely amusing to me. If you feel like legal mumbojumbo, inappropriate leering, indignant old men, and other assorted crazinesses the trial transcript's available for your perusal.

In Defense of Evil Geniuses...AND Lawyers

Doctor Obolensky was recently served papers in Babbage as it seems a lawsuit is being filed against him by Steelhead resident Miss Eugenia Burton. Seems she is a supernatural djinni who broke her ankle when she fell from a high height--her powers having failed upon her being allegedly affected by a reality enforcing device. Doctor O. has since replied to these charges, but it looks like he could possibly be brought to trial for this.

As an "evil" genius myself, I am watching this a bit as I have been known to create a few devices of dubious purpose myself. I could not help but to chuckle a bit at the Doctor's reply, as I did agree with quite a bit of it.

I am not too worried for Doctor O though. We "evil" geniuses get such a bad rap. One does not reach the overly ripe old age of 108 in our profession without having been there-done that a few times (or being exposed to some kind of chemical/rays). I can tell you from experience. A town got levelled once (or twice), killer tomatoes invaded a port village, what that green goo was and how that minion ended up "falling" overboard on my airship that time? How did all of that happen? No idea whatsoever. *whistles*

Say what you will about them, but for us mad scientist "evil" genius types, a good lawyer is priceless.

Villains Aether Salon in Babbage

On Sunday I attended the Aether Salon in Babbage Palisade, hosted by Miss Viv Trafalgar and Miss Serafina Puchkina with the Baron and Doctor Obolensky as panelists. The topic? Villains. Why else would I leave the lab? While the Baron rather protests being labelled as a such, Doctor O embraces his villain status with a flourish. As he very well should! Why would one not want to be? Here is an excerpt from the transcript which you may find here:
"[14:34] Doctor Obolensky: ...Now then, I suppose you are all thinking "Why, oh why, is my life plagued with Doctor Obolensky, that horrible villain and stylish man about town? Well, the answer is rather simple. You lead boring, ordinary lives. And yet, you lack the drive, the vision, and the ability, to crush your neighbors with giant mechanical lobsters. So of course, someone has to do it for you, or you'd all end up with nothing to talk about. Now then...I'm a genius, and I could have chosen, at some point, to follow the path of the hero. But, let's face it. Although better than you rabble, heroes have a significant down side. Do heroes get to ride about in giant mechanical lobsters, crushing buildings beneath their oversized claws? No! Being a villain is simply more fun."

I appreciate a fellow villain who "gets" it. He seemed rather fond of mentioning giant lobsters though, which led to the following exchange:
[15:32] Treloar Parx: Doctor O, what commission are you receiving on future sales of Dr. Alter's lobsters?
[15:32] Doctor Obolensky: Ten percent, and a bulk discount for orders over a dozen. Actually, I wasn't even aware she made giant lobsters.

Well, now you know sir...may tock lobsters trample the world! *cackles*

On a Dark New Babbage Corner...

A lycan, a vampire and a tiny otter were standing on a corner in New Babbage. If that makes for the beginning of a joke, I only wish. Not knowing of their intentions (especially the tiny otter), I steered a bit clear at first perusing the nearby shops and weighing my options. I paused to look and then, remembering that I had my clockwork pistol concealed under my lab coat, I continued to watch them...Right before my eyes the lycan became a sharply-dressed gentleman. When his collagues left, we exchanged pleasantries and he introduced himself as Mr. Moses Mureaux, a local merchant. He explained that he enjoyed being able to run free in his true form sometimes. Well, you can not necessarily blame a feline such as myself for being cautious...especially around otters. Do not ask...

Big Babbage Snowball Battle

Capt. Redgrrl Llewellyn hosted a steampunk snowball fort fight and rum nog party recently in New Babbage. I had a tremendous time and got a chance to break in my Ordinal snowball rifle with the urchins and other citizens. Dr Obolensky used his bee rifle instead. Young Mr. Loki Eliot (who proved to be rather hard to hit!) made a delightful machinima about the event:

Babbage Town Meeting

I thought that I would join the good citizens of New Babbage at their town meeting. I do find them rather agreeable and they have made me feel quite welcome in their community forums. After all, being surrounded by so many cog- and invention-loving folks is oddly comforting in a way. That and the fact that you're not quite sure who might be wearing the latest invention that could wipe out the whole town in a blink of an eye...

Sparrowood Opens

I do venture from the lab sometimes, you know, and this evening found me in Babbage for the opening of Sparrowood. I , along with some of Babbage's citizens, attended this event. I regretted having to leave a bit early, but my mind was elsewhere tonight...

A Visit to Babbage

I had not been to Babbage in quite a while, so I thought that I would visit...I love a place whose residents seems to be just as fanatical about their inventions...
And see industry and progress as the future...I sat for a quiet moment reading in Loki's Absinthe House...
And while exploring the northern part of Palisade, came upon Miss Roanoke Feuerstein, head of a vampire clan who is starting a dark RP town area within Palisade called Sparrowood. It is officially opening this Friday at 8 SLT. She has extended an invitation to be a part of this place of refuge for those of us for whom the words "iniquity", "vice" and "miscreant" might apply. I shall indeed be there...
